Who do you say that I am? | Mark 8:22-30
Introduction
Mark 8 shows that the disciples still did not fully understand who Jesus was. The passage teaches that only Christ can open our spiritual eyes to clearly see and faithfully follow Him.
1. Jesus reveals our spiritual blindness (vv. 22–24)
Spiritual blindness is the inability to rightly recognize Jesus apart from God’s grace. The blind man reflects the spiritual condition of the disciples and humanity. Only Christ can open spiritually blind eyes.
2. Jesus progressively opens our eyes (vv. 25–26)
Jesus heals the blind man in stages, showing that spiritual understanding grows progressively. Believers continue growing in knowledge, faith, and obedience as Christ works in them. The Christian life is continual growth in seeing Christ more clearly.
3. From confusion to confession (vv. 27–30)
Jesus asks: “Who do YOU say that I am?” Peter answers: “You are the Christ.” True spiritual sight leads to confident confession of Jesus as Messiah and Savior.
Conclusion
Jesus still opens spiritually blind eyes. Only He can save, transform, and give true spiritual sight. The question remains: “Who do you say that I am?”
